This android application makes it faster and easier for teachers to grade student work. It uses Computer Vision to analyze pictures of tests and then grade them according to an answer key. The project was funded through Sorelle Friedler PhD by Haverford College and the National Science Foundation.
Teachers have a difficult enough job without the paperwork. We aimed to automate the tedious parts of teaching in order to allow teachers to spend their time teaching.
The Red Pen app is published and available on the Google Play store. The product allows teachers to grade and manage tests from multiple classes.
Automated grading has been around for a long time. However, with modern computer vision the idea can be expanded and improved using things like OCR and advanced template matching.
This project was an in-depth foray into Android and OpenCV. My colleague and I wrote over 8000 lines of clean, concise, commented code in ~400 hours.
